Bless the Blessing Giver What if we hit our knees telling God how much we love Him for who He is instead of desperately petitioning for our needs? Knowing that it’s God’s great love for us that causes His actions of love toward us, it is only natural that we are compelled to thank God for all He does for us. However, let us go deeper than the initial blessings to love God for who He is. After all, it is because of who He is that He loves us so much and as a result cares so greatly for every detail in our lives. Just who is God besides our Creator and Giver of blessings? He is the one, true God and besides Him there is no other. I love the description of God in Psalm 115: "Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, For thy mercy, and for thy truth’s sake. Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is now their God? But our God is in the heavens; He hath done whatsoever he hath pleased. Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands. They have mouths, but they speak not: Eyes they have, but they see not: They have ears, but they hear not; noses have they, but they smell not: They have hands, but they handle not; Feet have they, but they walk not; Neither they speak they through their throat. They that make them are like unto them; So is every one that trusteth in them. O Israel, trust thou in the LORD; he is their help and their shield. O house of Aaron, trust in the LORD; he is their help and their shield. Ye that fear the LORD, trust in the LORD; he is their help and their shield. The LORD hath been mindful of us; he will bless us; He will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron. He will bless them that fear the LORD, both small and great. The LORD shall increase you more and more, you and your children. Ye are blessed of the LORD which made heaven and earth." (v1-15) No matter the life we live or what or whom we adore, God is God, the one, true God, and beside Him there is no other, recorded through the phophet Isaiah in Isaiah 45:5—“I am the LORD, and there is no other; There is no God besides Me. I will gird you, though you have not known Me.” Psalm 37:4 encourages us to delight ourselves in the Lord and tells the result is that He will give us the desires of our heart. Romans 8:28 reminds us that “God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” In light of these and so many other verses encouraging me to delight myself in the LORD and place no person, ideal, goal, dream, relationship, or desire equal to or above Him. Nothing else can provide for me as He can. He will direct my thoughts, attitudes, and actions as long as I seek Him above all else, understanding that He is life, that He is peace, and He is joy. He is the strength I need to do what I should when I should regardless. I pray that you will seek God and love Him for who He is, understanding that His desire and ability to bless us is intrinsic to His unique nature to which there is no equal.
